DR. TERESA HOLTROP, the Michigan Director of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), recently testified in a case in Michigan in which a mom objects to vaccination based on two points:
(1) She is religious, and does not want to have products made cells derived from aborted fetuses injected into her daughter, and
(2) She is concerned that her daughter may be at increased risk of adverse events due to the very high penetrence of autoimmune disorders in her family.
Holtrop was brought to the case as a witness for the father, who claims he wants his daughter vaccinated. In reality, vaccination for him is a convenience issue added to this case over child support, of which he is failing to pay; the father never tried to have his daughter vaccinated until the child support debt began adding up.

Holtrop also revealed that she does not have a sufficient amount of knowledge about vaccine risks and vaccine injury. She testified that she is not an expert on vaccine injury, and that she gets her information about vaccines from the CDC website.
Under US Federal Regulations, doctors must be able to communicate the benefits, and the risks of any medical procedure and then they must give their patients a choice after they have secured knowledge that they patient understands both the benefits and the risks.
Holtrop repeatedly stated that she “did not know” when counsel for the mother asked her questions related to vaccine risk.
The fact that the Director of one of our 50 states’ chapters of AAP does not know what she should know about vaccines is disturbing. The fact that Dr. Holtrop has been denying her patients informed consent for over 20 years is unacceptable.
What’s most amazing is that parents have entrusted AAP, by entrusting their own pediatricians. As a patient, you are entitled to have your child’s doctor calmly and professionally explain to you the known benefits – and risks – of each and every vaccine on the CDC schedule. Under US Regulations, you are entitled to be informed, each and every time, that every vaccine is experimental, that ongoing safety studies use adverse events and injuries that occur as a result of vaccination. You are entitled to know the rates of each and every type of adverse event that can occur. And you are entitled to refuse any medical procedure on behalf of your child if you deem the risk of adverse events unacceptable.
Some may claim that due to a clause in the 21st Century Cures Act that patients are not entitled to informed consent for vaccine safety studies; however, since the aim of the study in question is to determine the safety of the vaccine in question, the special clause in the 21st Century Cures Act cannot possibly apply because it can be invoked only in cases in which those running the trial have determined that the risk to the patient in minimal. The post-market surveillance studies are not covered by this clause because they either would not be occurring if the safety was truly known, or post-market surveillance studies are not really scientific studies. Pharma runs these studies, or pays for them, and so the fox in guarding the henhouse on vaccine safety. This is unacceptable.
For the Director of the AAP to cite The Nuremberg Defense demonstrates that the AAP has abdicated their responsibility to families in the US. Instead of pediatricians dismissing families from their practices so they can make their quotas and can receive $600 per child from Blue Cross/Blue Shield for every child who is up-to-date on the CDC schedule, US families should call out their pediatrician in editorials in newspapers and name the practices online in social media and warn other parents if the doctors fail to provide informed consent.

Sadly, parents expect hostility from any pediatrician who is challenged on their knowledge of vaccine risk. Some do not even know that thimerosal, which contains mercury, is in the flu shot. Or that they should hand the CDC’s Vaccine Information Sheets to parents PRIOR to vaccinating the child, and wait for them to read it, and then only vaccinate if the parent gives their consent.
Dr. Holtrop’s testimony provides ample evidence that pediatricians don’t know much about vaccine risk. In the comments below, give other examples of what pediatricians don’t know about vaccine risk?
Isn’t it astounding that many parents have learned more about the “details” of vaccines than this woman who is considered to be a “highly respected and credentialed expert”???
As a pediatrician, who reads and scans most of the journals that come across my desk, I can assure you that as a group, all we keep reading and seeing is that “vaccines are safe and effective” and get encouragement to consider dismissing those parents who are “putting their child and others at risk by refusing vaccines.” Vaccine safety studies? Hmmmm Studies that take a long term look – years or decades – at the outcomes comparing unvaccinated to vaccinated? I haven’t seen a single one.
Please consider posting or writing “The most important studies that make it clear: Vaccines carry risk”. Or call it “The studies every parent needs to print off and take to their pediatrician or court appearance when refusing vaccines on an informed basis”.

Our son was vaccinated with Hep B vaccine AGAINST the birth plan. When confronted, the nurse who took him to get ready for release said, “Oh well, he needed it anyway.” He had been separated from us for the first 8 hours of life due to birth complications, and he had just started breastfeeding well.
Hours later, he stopped eating at all and became non responsive. Then he started bilious vomiting. He would spend 11 weeks in NICU, endure 4 major surgeries, and lose 80% of his small intestine. But we were reassured over and over that the hep B vaccine had nothing to do with that. It was an undetected birth defect that just happened to become life-threatening hours after the vaccine.
When he was due for release, I suggested that we delay or even not do vaccines, and it was treated as child endangerment. I was told that sometimes hospitals had to remove babies from care of parents who chose to “rock the boat” in this way. I gave in to get my very vulnerable baby home, and he had his first of many ear infections. He also experienced vomiting, diarrhea, and fussiness, but those were all attributed to his fragile medical condition and the change from NICU to home.
Every time he was vaccinated, it was never presented as a choice, and every time he got ear and/or respiratory infections. I was a diligent record keeper because we were told he would most likely die before his first birthday, so I pointed out all the adverse events following each round of vaccines — illness, diarrhea, vomiting, eczema, other rashes, allergies to foods he had been eating… I was told that it was all stuff that would have happened anyway, that we just had a very medically fragile child who absolutely needed vaccines to protect him from all the diseases he could get.
Additionally, after his vaccines at 7 months, he stopped vocalizing (cooing, laughing, babbling) and he wouldn’t look at us as much. He would stare intently at the ceiling fan and his limbs would become rigid with some sort of sensory response.
The pediatrician—the best one in the area according to our gastroenterologist — said he was “fine” considering that he was growing and hadn’t been hospitalized. He said our son was “stubborn” and that as new parents we were catering too much for him. That’s why he wasn’t developing and why he screamed all the time.
Having a background in special education, by 9 months, I had enough. I demanded a developmental assessment. After all, I knew that catching things early could mean better outcomes. Reluctantly he administered the Denver II, and even he was stunned! I don’t think he really ever took time to see where our son was at any point in time. He just made sure he was growing and that he had the shots.
He referred to early intervention, but he insisted vaccines had nothing to do with any of the issues. Finally after 6 ear infections in the first year, the pediatrician began talking about ear tubes. I decided to avoid more surgery and consulted a chiropractor, and he confirmed my worst fears.
My son got better, but he was on of those kids whose autism was evident very early. Not because he was born with it but because he was injured quickly and had all sorts of synergistic poisons for short gut — Tylenol and other pain meds, antibiotics for repeat infections, Zantac for acid reflux, cholestyramine to bind bile acids…
When he started to get better — when he finally sat on his own then crawled then walked — the doctors agreed that maybe he had been reacting to vaccines. Even then they couldn’t recommend we not do them again ever, but they gave a medical exemption.
Fast forward a couple of years and we had a wonderfully healthy daughter. According to the doctors, new ones who agreed with our decision for our son, there was no reason not to vaccinate her. We had successfully skipped hep B at birth that time, but at 10 weeks, we were bullied into getting DTaP, Hib, and IPV, partly to protect our son who couldn’t be vaccinated. She screamed the whole way home, then her fever spiked 102, and she had projectile vomiting and mucousy green diarrhea. When I called the after-hours line, the annoyed doctor on call told me she must have been sick, that those reactions were not even possible with vaccines. She would go on to have seizures and scream for 3 days until she developed an umbilical hernia. We were dismissed from the practice and forced to pursue emergency care. No one told us about VAERS or VICP. I don’t even know if they knew. And only one doctor came in, off the record, to tell us that we probably shouldn’t vaccinate her again.
I am so sooooo sorry all this happenned and continues to happen accross the country. Most doctors and hospitals are so conflicted by the profits and the “quality measures” that are rolled out that grade hospitals and doctors on how well they vaccinate = good hospital or good doctor. It is a sick system. Parents – please understand that unless birth mom has hepatitis B – the risk of saying no to the hepatitis B vaccine is ZERO! We catch this virus from unprotected sex and sharing dirty needles. Babies in my practice, heck even the grade school age children are able to resist sex and IV drugs. Never let your child out of your sight – in the hospital PERIOD. Or arrange for a home or birthing center birth with midwives or a team that supports informed consent.
Remember it is your baby’s healthy immune system that keeps them healthy and while a vaccine might boost antibodies to a particular bacteria or virus that the vaccine also carries toxins that harm directly and overactivate the immune system causing autoimmunity (your immune system attacks yourself) and allergies known to be linked to developmental delays and more – especially when given in pregnancy or to infants and young children.

James, can you please post an update of this case? I have searched in vain for confirmation that Plotkin recused himself from the case as an expert witness and would like more recent information. What was the final outcome?
Ingri, The judge has not made a ruling on the question of vaccination for the child. This is the only update possible at this point. To the best of my knowledge, the testimony was not entered as evidence.

HOLY CRAP it’s even worse than I imagined. The ignorance is STAGGERING.
They came in to have me sign forms while in labor with my first child, back in 2006. When I got to the hep b consent I looked at the nurse and begged the question why on Earth you would give a newborn whose liver has not completed development a vaccine for such a disease. To which she responded that when they were older and we’re on drugs or became prostitutes they would not come get the vaccine. So I responded that maybe those individuals knew something we did not, and refused consent. I went home after that and began to research that particular vaccine, but by the time I completed my research, I vowed never to let these drug pushers touch my kids. For a while at every well child check up they would harass me, right up til the day I finally said, right, I’ll be happy to let you vaccinate, just as soon as you all sign a form stating you’ll be fiscally responsible for any damages that may occur. Needless to say, 16 years later, my daughter has yet to be injected. Regular trips to the chiropractor, and she didn’t have her first ear infection til age 4. I have never regretted the choice to not vaccinate, I wouldn’t like if she caught an infectious disease and it took her life, but I couldn’t live with myself if I chose to vaccinate and it ended her life. There is a world of research that supports my decisions, but it is deeply supressed by the corrupt system that also brainwashes and fear-mongers in a criminal way. My deep prayers and love to those of you who have been railroaded and victimized, know that there will be no doubt, a day of reckoning for these evil powers who have destroyed so many lives, and caused so much pain.
