Skyhorse Publishing has donated 40 copies each of “Thimerosal: Let the Science Speak” and “Vaccine Whistleblower: Exposing Autism Research Fraud at the CDC” to the Institute for Pure and Applied Knowledge (IPAK, ipaknowledge.org). One of the most disturbing revelations by Bill Thompson was that the research teams at the CDC would change the study design, and the approach to analysis, without oversight by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) until they found a way to make associations between vaccination and autism appear to be non-significant. When they could not dissolve the associations they found via over-analysis, they simply left results out.

Hi James, I will write what I wanted to say here as I quickly got silenced over at DK for posting a benign comment in appreciation of your diary post. I hope you got to see it before I was banned and the comment deleted. Such a weird experience to go reading through all the abusive posts to find my respectful comment had been deleted. What constitutes acceptable human behaviour on that site is very disturbing.
Anyway I notice you have a background in ecology, so you may enjoy reading an article from Robert Sapolsky a few years back. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC387823/. As a scientist with a background in ecology and ethology, I found it got me thinking about the role of disease in keeping animal populations healthy, not only physically, but psychologically also as Sapolsky observed. A documentary by David Attenborough had a similar big picture effect when he announced disease in the rainforest kept the ecosystem in balance by not letting any species become too prolific.
I find it easy to draw parallels from Sapolsky’s observation of a TB outbreak removing all the most aggressive and despotic baboons from the troupe, to what we see in the vaccine debate. We know that prosocial behaviours boost human immune function (eg acts of altruism boosts upto 30%). Perhaps the most aggressive and despotic unwittingly know that they will be on nature’s hit-list without a magic bullet to cling to…
I would also recommend that you publish your articles at other sites, Collective Evolution comes to mind. People’s fear of their vulnerability isn’t as pathological as it seems to be over at DK so genuine discussion and appreciation of your work can take place, without censorship or silencing.
